7 Simple Skin Care Tricks for Glowing Skin This Winter

  • By Nadeem Khan

Winter can be rough on the skin. The cold, dry air outside and the heated air inside can cause your
skin to become red, irritated, and cracked easily — even if you’re taking care of your skin all winter
long. Here are seven simple tips for keeping your skin glowing this winter, so that you don’t have to
hide under layers of makeup all winter long!

Cleanse Daily

The first step in your winter skincare routine should be cleansing. Cleaning the skin removes all of
the dirt, makeup, and excess oils from the day and prepares the skin to absorb nutrients and
moisture throughout the day. To get a deep cleanse, use a gentle scrub or exfoliator at least twice
per week. A great way to see immediate results is by adding an acid peel once a week for smoother
skin.

Avoid over-cleansing with harsh products or scrubbing too hard as that can cause dryness, irritation,
and even micro-tears in the delicate surface layers of your skin which can lead to long-term damage.

Use a Toner

Winter can be tough on our skin. The colder temperatures and lack of humidity wreak havoc on your
skin, drying it out and leaving it feeling tight and uncomfortable. The best way to combat these
problems is with a good skincare routine, including using a toner before applying moisturizer. Toners
are designed to balance the pH of your skin while also helping to remove any extra dirt or oil that
may have accumulated during the day.

Moisturize Often

Moisturizing is one of the simplest and most effective ways to combat winter skin. Moisturizing will
keep your skin hydrated, preventing dry patches and flakiness, which can lead to premature aging
and a dull complexion. However, you may be surprised at how many moisturizers contain harsh
ingredients that can cause irritation or breakouts.
One way to make sure that your moisturizer does not end up causing more harm than good is to look
for gentle formulas with simple ingredients like jojoba oil and shea butter. You should also avoid
fragrant products if you have sensitive skin as this can irritate and trigger allergies.

Invest in a Good Cleanser

One of the best ways to keep your skin glowing this winter is by investing in a good cleanser that
suits your needs.

For example, if you have dry skin it's best to find a cleanser that uses natural oils like coconut or olive
oil. If you are dealing with acne, look for products that contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or
sulfur. And if you suffer from sensitive skin or eczema, use products with ingredients like chamomile
and aloe vera.

Mask it Up

Winter is the time when your skin needs all the help it can get to stay healthy and radiant. There are
many ways to do this, but one of my favorite simple skin care tricks during winter is masking!
Masking helps keep your skin hydrated, healthy, and glowing. Find a mask that works for your skin
type. There are so many out there, so make sure you find one that best fits your needs. If you have
oily skin, try a clay mask and if you have dry skin, try a hydrating mask.

Use a Lip Balm

You might not think about lip balm during winter, but your lips need just as much attention and care
during the cold months. Chapped lips can lead to more serious conditions such as cold sores and
fungal infections, so it's important to keep them moisturized and healthy all year round. Apply a lip
balm with an SPF every day before you leave the house. (This will prevent sun damage, which is a
major cause of chapping.) Keep lip balm in your purse or car so you can reapply it throughout the
day.

Opt for Humidifiers

Keeping skin moisturized during the winter is crucial to maintaining a healthy, glowing complexion.
One way to keep skin hydrated is by using a humidifier at home. Humidifiers add moisture to the air,
which can help your skin stay plump and soft. An added bonus? Humidifiers also help relieve coughs
and congestion in the winter.
